Uber Pays Drivers $4,000 to Switch to Electric Vehicles

Uber is taking another major step toward electrifying its platform by launching Go Electric, a new incentive program offering $4,000 cash grants to drivers who switch from gas-powered cars to electric vehicles (EVs).

The announcement coincides with Uber’s rebranding of Uber Green to Uber Electric, highlighting the company’s full shift away from hybrid rides. Drivers in California, New York, Colorado, and Massachusetts are among the first eligible for the $4,000 grant, which applies to new and used EV purchases.

To make the transition even more affordable, Uber has partnered with TrueCar.com to provide an additional $1,000 discount for all U.S. drivers buying EVs through the platform. These incentives can also be combined with state-level rebates such as Massachusetts’ MOR‑EV and Colorado’s Clean Fleet programs—helping offset EV purchase costs at a time when the federal EV tax credit has been discontinued.

Uber says the goal is clear: achieve 100% electric rides in North America and Europe by 2030 and globally by 2040. With over 200,000 EVs already operating on its platform, adoption among Uber drivers is growing nearly five times faster than the national average.

As part of the program launch, Uber has upgraded its app with new tools, including battery-aware trip matching to help reduce range anxiety and promote charging efficiency. Riders also get a 20% discount on their next electric trip in celebration of the rollout.

By offering direct financial support and smarter EV integration, Uber is signaling a strong commitment to making the switch attractive for both drivers and riders—paving the road to a fully electric future for ridesharing.
